Physician of the Year

William A. Grimsley, DO has been selected as the 2015 Physician of the Year at Carteret Health Care. He was honored during a celebration on Friday, March 27th at Bistro by the Sea, during a celebration of National Doctors Day.

Dr. Grimsley grew up in Dillon, South Carolina. He and his wife Diane have two sons, Ryan and Todd. He has four grandchildren.

Dr. Grimsley has been the sole pathologist for Carteret Health Care’s Clinical Laboratory, and member of the CGH Medical Staff for over 26 years. He received his bachelor’s degree from Clemson University, SC; a Ph.D from University of Oklahoma; and his medical degree from Michigan State University. He is bound to have a winning football team from one of those, he tells his staff.

Dr. Grimsley completed his residency at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. He is certified by the American Board of Pathology.

Those who nominated Dr. Grimsley cited his dedication to patients first. Other comments include:

He is always willing to work around patient's schedule, such as when a Bone Marrow is needed

He is always available to answer questions from patients and family members

"Dr. G", as staff refer to him, directs such varied departments as Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunohematology (Blood Bank).

He works long hours and is available to staff for technical questions, even on his day off

He is dedicated to CGH and has been faithful for many years. He has an open door policy and listens to staff, he is an educator.

He has a great sense of humor and enjoys having fun with our group. We enjoy celebrating his favorite Holiday with him - Groundhog's Day. He gives us candy bars, pencils, or pins to celebrate the day! He always does special things for us during Lab Week, like buying us T-shirts and handing out gift cards. To me, all of that is stuff he doesn't have to do, but he likes to because he appreciates what we do in the lab.

Dick Brvenik, Carteret Health Care, President shared, “There were many accolades shared regarding Dr. Grimsley. He is very deserving of this honor and I offer him sincere congratulations and appreciation for his dedication to Carteret County.”

“We are indeed very fortunate to have him and so many exceptionally well trained and dedicated physicians on our medical staff” Brvenik continued. “Our physicians work closely with us to help produce results that have earned recognitions from independent organizations that evaluate hospitals and medical staffs nationwide. Most recently, that has included the publication “Business North Carolina” which recognized our hospital as one of the best in the state.”
