Carteret Health Care is excited to share that we have received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for spring 2022. This national distinction recognizes Carteret Health’s achievements in protecting patients from preventable harm and error in the hospital.

“Carteret Health Care is once again excited to receive the highest ranking from The Leapfrog Group for patient safety,” states Harvey Case, CHC President and CEO. “Our team and our physician colleagues, in every part of our organization, make improving our quality and safety processes and outcomes a top priority every day.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of Carteret Health Care for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”

As the sole community hospital in Carteret County, Carteret Health Care is also the only North Carolina hospital chosen to be a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network. Local doctors and staff are able to use the latest research, diagnostic and treatment recommendations from Mayo Clinic to develop best treatment plans for Carteret patients.

In addition to the Leapfrog “A” Safety Grade, Carteret Health Care was recently recognized as the only North Carolina hospital in 2022 to be designated as a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital and received four Women’s Choice Awards in 2022 for Best Hospitals with a Stroke Center, Orthopedics, Bariatric Surgery and Patient Safety.

Case concluded, “Thank you to our extraordinary staff for their constant efforts toward patient safety and to our patients for trusting Carteret Health Care with their care.”
