Recognized as a Pioneer in Quality by TJC

Once again, Carteret Health Care is pleased to share that our quality efforts have been recognized for being at the forefront of a new era in health care quality reporting. The Joint Commission named Carteret Health Care as a Pioneer in Quality (PIQ) for our electronic reporting of clinical data and the early adoption of technology to collect and transmit quality of care data.

The Pioneers in Quality is a Joint Commission program to assist hospitals on their journey toward electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) reporting and analysis. Carteret Health Care along with 469 other accredited hospitals was recognized for leading the way in quality reporting by using standard, encoded data in the electronic health record of patients.

Since 2002, hospitals have been reporting data to The Joint Commission as a requirement of accreditation. To have closer alignment with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission has revised its measures for quality reporting. Through eCQMs, hospitals can electronically collect and transmit data on the quality of care that patients receive — data that can be analyzed to measure and improve care processes, performances and outcomes.

One of Carteret Health Care’s major goals in its strategic plan is to enhance information technology both internally and externally to improve clinical care and gain efficiencies. We are excited to receive this distinction because we believe producing quality data can be used for benchmarking and continuous performance improvement as we consistently seek to be better. Ultimately it is our patients who benefit by being better informed and better equipped to make health care decisions based on quality data.
