Carteret Health Chosen as a Best Hospital for Maternity Care

Carteret Health has been recognized as a Best Hospital for Maternity Care by Money and The Leapfrog Group. This month they announced the list of the Best Hospitals for Maternity Care, with Carteret Health being among the top hospitals honored. Only 259 U.S. hospitals out of 6,000 were selected to receive this prestigious award.

Hospitals, like Carteret Health, that achieved recognition on the list had to fully meet The Leapfrog Group’s evidence-based, nationally standardized metrics. These include lower rates of early elective delivery, Cesarean birth, and episiotomy, as well as compliance with process measures including newborn bilirubin screening, DPT or blood clot prevention techniques as well high-risk deliveries.

In addition, the Best Maternity Care Hospitals had to show a commitment to safety by carrying an A or B letter grade on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assessment for spring 2022 with Carteret Health earning an A Safety Grade.

The 259 hospitals that made the cut are a combination of hospitals providing care for uncomplicated pregnancies, as well as hospitals providing care for high-risk deliveries, such as offering neonatal intensive care units.

Harvey Case, Carteret Health President shared, “We are beyond proud of our OB/GYN and pediatric providers, nurses and patient care teams for rising to the top to ensure mothers, newborns and the entire family receive the best care. Receiving national recognition during the pandemic years further demonstrates the level of commitment our exceptional team provides.”

The Brady Birthing Center welcomes more than 750 newborns each year and features six birthing suites and nine postpartum rooms both decorated with a home-like environment. While focused on bonding and early breastfeeding, Carteret Health encourages skin to skin including C-section mothers who may choose a clear drape during delivery.

While offering a wide range of obstetrical services and physician providers, Carteret Health cares for mothers during every phase of their pregnancy — and after delivery. The Brady Birthing Center is also recognized as a North Carolina Breastfeeding Friendly Hospital and as a Safe Sleep Champion by Cribs for Kids.

Case concludes, “All of our distinctions are a true testament to the team’s commitment in ensuring the highest level of compassionate care and safety is provided for all patients.”
