Winter of last year Pattie Maxwell of Maxwell Decor & Design was invited to Carteret Health Care in hopes to add some color and vibrancy to a few areas in the hospital. The newly remodeled area for Pediatrics was one space that needed uplifting for younger patients. Ms. Maxwell noticed in the Pediatrics unit, the wall space was quite limited and she, along with Robbin Mobley, Clinical Director of Maternal Child Health, discovered there was more opportunity when looking up.They came up with the idea of installing painted or stylized ceiling tiles to lift the spirits of pediatric patients.

Ms. Maxwell enthusiastically volunteered her time and creative talents and ran with the idea. She recalled a recent visit to West Carteret High School where she was impressed with the student artwork that was displayed. Ms. Maxwell contacted Kathy Spruill, the art teacher of West Carteret, and shared the opportunity for her and her students to work together to create a calming, yet entertaining underwater adventure on the ceiling tiles. Together they coordinated with the hospital to get the tiles to the students, have them created and then brought back to be installed in the pediatric rooms.

Six students from the Art Club at West Carteret High School designed and created a selection of 10 images that are sure to promote healing and comfort for patients and their families. No matter where their education and careers take them, these six students have made a lasting impression at Carteret Health!
