Take Back Your Legs With Our Cutting-Edge Treatments in Morehead City
Varicose veins can form as the vein walls lose their elasticity causing weakening of the valves within the vessels. These dysfunctional valves cannot keep venous blood flowing in the right direction causing gravity “pulls” the blood down your leg and ankle. This pooling effect can then lead to a myriad of symptoms. This “venous insufficiency” can be caused or made worse by age, gender, work history, pregnancy, or family history. Unfortunately, this troublesome issue is very common as we age, with about half of all Americans over the age of 50 affected.

At Carteret Health Care’s Surgical Group – Symi Circle, we don’t do any vein stripping! Our modern cutting-edge treatments are minimally invasive and performed in an office-based setting. The old-fashioned way of dealing with symptomatic varicose veins is called “vein stripping” or “stripping and ligation”. This is a fairly invasive surgical procedure that typically needs to be performed in a hospital setting under general anesthesia. Patients usually experience significant postoperative pain and most need several days or weeks to recover. There is also a very high failure rate.
Local anesthesia will be used to help minimize discomfort during the procedure. Some patients experience light bruising and a “tightening” sensation along the vein after the treatment is completed. These mild effects dissipate after just a few days.
The Carteret Health Care Surgical Group – Symi Circle is an inviting and relaxing space. You’ll feel at ease knowing that Dr. Jones has the expertise and experience to make you feel as comfortable as possible the whole time and his team will take excellent care of you. Procedures are performed with minimal discomfort using local anesthetics. Some patients might experience light bruising, some “tightening,” or some mild soreness that dissipates quickly. The vast majority of patients can resume normal activity the next day!
Treatments typically take about an hour or less. Relief from the symptoms of varicose veins begins quickly and continues to improve over several weeks. The full effect of the procedure is realized after approximately 2-6 weeks.
This is a very common question as we live in a busy world and people need to be able to get back to their normal activities as soon as possible. There is virtually no downtime associated with our cutting- edge treatments and regular activities can typically be resumed immediately. Most patients even drive themselves home from their procedures. Compression stockings will need to be worn for 1-2 weeks afterwards and you may have some very mild restrictions for 1-2 weeks after procedure.
