About Dr. Jessup

David B. Jessup, MD, FACC, FSCAI Medical Director, Cardiac Services, Carteret Health Care

Dr. Jessup is a board-certified interventional cardiologist and nationally recognized clinical investigator whose work has shaped procedural safety, device innovation, and vascular outcomes in contemporary cardiovascular medicine. He currently serves as Medical Director of the Cardiac Services Line at Carteret Health Care, where he leads strategic development, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary care integration across the cardiovascular service line.

He earned his Bachelor of Science from North Carolina State University in 1993 and completed his medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997. He pursued residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico Medical Center, followed by fellowships in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at the University of Utah School of Medicine, completing in 2004.

His published research has shaped modern approaches to procedural safety, vascular outcomes, and anticoagulation strategy. Among his most-cited works are studies on bioresorbable scaffold implantation, uninterrupted warfarin use during PCI, and long-term stent patency from the STROLL study. He’s also contributed early insights into stent durability and CTO revascularization techniques. These publications have influenced national practice and earned him recognition in the top 10% of most-cited physicians.

Dr. Jessup has presented his work at national conferences including Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT), where he contributed data and insights on CTO techniques and device safety. He has also served as a local principal investigator for multicenter trials evaluating stent platforms, pharmacologic therapies, and procedural innovations.

He is a Fellow of both the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (FSCAI), and holds certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine and the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons in Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology, and Internal Medicine.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Jessup and his blended family enjoy coastal adventures, marathon running, and mentoring future clinicians. His leadership continues to elevate Carteret Health Care as a regional center of excellence in cardiovascular care.
