Tobacco Treatment Patient Celebration

This month, Carteret Health Care Cardiopulmonary celebrated Mr. Albert Farrell, our first graduate from the Tobacco Treatment Program at Carteret Health Care. He was one of the first patients enrolled in the program, which he credits for his success in becoming smoke free.

Mr. Farrell stated, “I could not have met my goal to quit smoking without the assistance and support of the Tobacco Treatment program.”

The Tobacco Treatment program consists of 3-4 counseling sessions as well as phone support to assess the progress patients are making. On the first visit, the Cardiopulmonary team perform carbon monoxide monitoring along with baseline simple spirometry. There will also be an initial assessment to obtain your smoking history and medical history. The new standard of care for smoking cessation is used to create an individualized treatment plan for each patient.

Once a quit date is determined, the patient will be called on the day before, the 2nd visit will be scheduled for a day or two after the quit date. The following counseling sessions will be scheduled as needed. The final session will consist of repeating the simple spirometry and carbon monoxide monitoring and further counseling.

Ask your primary care provider for a referral, if you are interested in the Tobacco Treatment Program. Carteret Health Care is here to help you make healthy goals and achieve them.
