Wound Center Expanded

Carteret Health Care Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center is happy to announce a recent expansion to better serve the community. The Wound Healing Center now has an additional exam room, bringing the total to 4 exam rooms to meet the growing needs of patients. Since opening in April of 2012 with 3 exam rooms, patient volumes have grown to the point that an additional exam room was needed.

Katie Orr, Director of Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center, stated, “We have undergone some renovations since November including a new front office and check in area and an additional exam room in order to improve patient flow and experience due to increased volumes of patients.”

Prior to the expansion, some patients had a delay of up to weeks before they could be seen for an appointment. Last summer, some new patients experienced a six week wait for a new patient appointment.

“The additional exam room will enable us to see our patients sooner with no more than a one week wait during our peek busy times,” Orr concluded.

The Wound Center offers specialized treatment for chronic or non-healing wounds, which are defined as sores or wounds that have not significantly improved from conventional treatments. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins and immobility, non-healing wounds lead to lower quality of life and may lead to amputations. When wounds persist, a specialized approach is required for healing. Typically, a wound that doesn’t respond to normal medical care within 30 days is considered a problem or chronic wound.

Located at 3722 Bridges Street, the Center has two hyperbaric oxygen chambers and offers state-of-the-art treatments including debridement, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, dressing selection, special shoes and patient education, people with non-healing and chronic wounds now have a place to turn.
