Leslie Guthrie Named CHC 2018 Clapsadl Award Recipient

Leslie Guthrie, RN in Carteret Health Care’s Surgical Services department was awarded the 2018 Clapsadl Award in front of her peers, co-workers, family members and administration during a called meeting. Named in honor of Mildred Clapsadl, RN, the award recognizes the impact and importance of nursing on patient care.

Ms. Guthrie was one of many nominated from over 300 nurses, RNs and LPNs at Carteret Health Care.

Cindy Jones, VP Patient Care Services presented the award to Ms. Guthrie and shared, “Leslie was selected because she exemplifies the highest level of commitment, clinical practice and leadership in the delivery of patient care. Her peers and co-workers shared a long list of compelling reasons why Leslie should be honored with the Clapsadl Nursing Excellence Award.”

One co-worker’s nomination shared that Leslie consistently anticipates the needs of her coworkers and patients and responds to each need promptly. Leslie excels in so many areas and with her help, we know we can get through anything.

Leeann Gupton, Director of Surgical Services stated, “I am thrilled to see Leslie receive this award. Leslie constantly goes above and beyond for her patients’ and team mates every day. Her skills as a nurse are impeccable and she knows just the words to share with patients and families to calm and reassure them. ”

Another peer stated that “not a shift goes by that I’m not reminded of how irreplaceable Leslie is and how lucky I am have to her on my team. Her empathy and compassion with patients and families are remarkable.”

Ms. Jones concluded by sharing words from another co-worker, “Leslie has a heart of caring and grace. Patients are overwhelmed with the caring gestures that Leslie shows every day. She shows the same professionalism when reporting to co-workers while being precise, thorough and leaving no detail unturned.”

As family members surprised her, Ms. Guthrie graciously accepted the award and shared how much she truly appreciates the recognition.

As a recipient of the Clapsadl Nursing Excellence Award, Ms. Guthrie will receive an expense paid trip to a national nursing convention of her choice, and $200 cash.  She will also be challenged to continue to display excellence in nursing, act as a role model for nursing at Carteret Health Care, and serve on the Recognition Committee for one year.

Carteret Health Care recognizes nursing excellence twice per year in the fall/winter for the Clapsadl Award and in May for the Georgia Lewis Award.  The Clapsadl & Lewis Nursing Excellence Awards are open to all clinical RNs and LPNs at Carteret Health Care who have a minimum of three consecutive years of employment and a minimum of 1000 hours worked each of these years.

Nominations for Excellence Awards may be submitted by letter to Hospital Administration describing how the individual demonstrates excellence in nursing or professionalism and are due 30 days prior to the announced presentation date.
