Hospice

What is Hospice?

Hospice is not a place or a thing. It’s a special way of caring for people and their families facing a life-limiting illness. Our purpose is to help you maintain dignity and control over your own life. Whatever your decision, we will honor it. We don’t take over, we just practice care and compassion.

Where does hospice help?

Most hospice care is provided in the home. For those who cannot remain at home, hospice provides services in alternate settings such as assisted living communities or nursing homes. Our goal is to provide comfort care, enabling the patient to be close to family and friends. We offer care for those suffering from cancer, Alzheimer's, end-stage heart diseases, end-stage respiratory diseases and other life-limiting illnesses.

When do you decide?

We are happy to visit with your family or friends to answer all your questions. Hospice can begin whenever you feel the time is right.

Carteret Health Care Hospice offers a team approach...

  • Teaching, assistance and support to caregivers
  • Nursing Services (RN & Home Health Aide)
  • Registered Nurse on call 24 hours/day
  • Medical social worker and chaplain for support and counseling
  • Volunteers and grief support

Does insurance cover Hospice care?

Most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, cover Hospice services. However, Hospice care is based on the patient’s need, not the ability to pay.
