Hospice

Hospice provides hope, care and dignity to patients who face life-threatening illness — and their families. Most people do not want to die alone in sterile, impersonal surroundings, hooked up to machines and cut off from their family and friends. And they don’t want to die in pain. The’d prefer, if possible, to spend their last days at home, alert and free of pain, among the people and things they love.

Carteret Health Care’s Hospice is dedicated to making this possible.

Hospice provides:

  • Teaching, assistance and support to caregivers
  • Nursing Services
  • Registered Nurse on call 24 hours day, 7 days a week
  • Medical social worker and chaplain for support and counseling
  • Physical, occupational and speech therapy services
  • Dietary counseling
  • Volunteers
  • Pain and symptom management
  • Medical equipment and supplies
  • Grief education and counseling

Carteret Health Care Hospice offers care for those suffering from cancer, Alzheimers, end-stage heart diseases, end-stage respiratory diseases and other life-limiting illnesses. We offer a team approach to medical, nursing, social and spiritual care.

Most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, cover Hospice services. However, Hospice care is based on the patient’s need, not the ability to pay. Carteret Health Care Hospice is Carteret County’s only not-for-profit hospice agency.

Do You Need To Be Referred?

A patient doesn’t need to be approved by a physician for a hospice referral. Anyone can call, at any time. If you prefer, we can speak with your current doctor regarding a specific plan of care.

We’re happy to visit with your family or friends to answer questions. Hospice care can begin whenever you feel the time is right.

Volunteers: The Heart of Hospice

Volunteers play an extremely important role in hospice care, providing assistance at all skill levels. Many of our volunteers are relatives and friends of former hospice patients. To be a hospice volunteer, there’s training to prepare you to make a real difference.
