Commission on Cancer Accredited Program

Carteret Health Care’s Cancer Center is part of an elite group of hospitals receiving a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS).   Accreditation by the CoC is given only to those facilities that are committed to providing the highest level of quality cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.   

Pink Ribbon Facility

Carteret Health Care is a designated Pink Ribbon Facility. Pink Ribbon Facilities are digital imaging centers recognized for providing excellence in breast health and an exceptional commitment to supporting the women of their community.

UNC Lineberger

Since 2012, the medical and radiation oncology services have been enhanced by a partnership with the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and UNC Cancer Care to promote community wide strategies to improve cancer screenings, participate in clinical trials, facilitate early detection and treatment, enhance treatment planning and professional education and streamline the process for patients who may seek second opinions at UNC Cancer Care. One of the advantages of the affiliation is the use of the University of Chapel Hill's (UNC-CH) Institutional Review Board (IRB) which provides the essential elements of experienced research support staff, technology as well as a variety of potential clinical research studies based on Carteret County's specific patient population and cancer types.

Carteret Health Care has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers. The Gold Seal of Approval® and the Heart-Check mark represent symbols of quality from their respective organizations.


Carteret Health Care underwent a rigorous onsite review in 2018. Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with stroke-related standards and requirements, including program management, the delivery of clinical care and performance improvement.




Get with the Guidelines® Gold Plus

Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke is the American Heart Association’s collaborative performance improvement program, demonstrated to improve adherence to evidence-based care of patients hospitalized with stroke. The Gold Plus designation is awarded to hospitals what provide the very best level of stroke care.


Get with the Guidelines® Heart Failure Gold Plus

Carteret Health Care has earned the Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure Gold Plus Award for applying detailed quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Foundation’s secondary prevention guidelines for patients with heart failure. Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure is a quality improvement program that helps hospital teams follow the most current, research-based standards with the expectation of speeding recoveries and dropping hospital readmissions for heart failure patients.

Get with the Guidelines® Resuscitation Gold Plus

Carteret Health Care has been recognized as a recipient of the Get With The Guidelines®-Resuscitation Gold Plus Award for executing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer cardiac arrests in the hospital.






Get with the Guidelines® AFIB Silver

Carteret Health Care has been awarded the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-AFIB Silver Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association guidelines for the management of patients with atrial fibrillation.


SHP Best Home Health Patient Satisfaction

Carteret Home Health and Hospice, divisions of Carteret Health Care, both earned distinctions as a Top 20% Superior Performer for Satisfaction. This achievement from Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP), recognizes organizations for achieving an overall score that ranked in the top 20% in the SHP national Home Health Care Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HHCAHPS) and Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Hospice benchmarks. This is also for scoring above the SHP national average for each HHCAHPS and CAHPS Hospice quality measure as defined from the patient’s and caregiver’s point of view.


Weight Loss


Carteret Health Care's Weight Loss Surgery Center is fully accredited as a metabolic and bariatric surgical center. The Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®) is a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). The MBSAQIP Standards, outlined in the Resources for Optimal Care of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Patient 2014 ensure that bariatric surgical patients receive a multi-disciplinary program, not just a surgical procedure, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success. The accredited center offers preoperative and postoperative care designed specifically for their severely obese patients.


Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction

BCBSNC recognized Carteret Health Care with a Blue Distinction® Center+ for Bariatric Surgery designation as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated health care facilities that show expertise in delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community.


Advanced STAR Partner

The NC Department of Health and Humas Services recently created the Stewardship of Antimicrobial Resources (STAR) Partners initiative. This initiative includes activities related to the implementation of antibiotic stewardship programs in healthcare facilities statewide. Carteret Health Care is one of only a few hospitals in the state to receive the Advanced certificate.




Birthing & Women's Health

Breastfeeding-Friendly Designation

Carteret Health Care’s Brady Birthing Center received the highest North Carolina Maternity Center Breastfeeding-Friendly Designation from the North Carolina Division of Public Health. The Center’s staff was recognized with five stars, the top designation, for its efforts in implementing policies and practices that support a breastfeeding-friendly environment for patients. Carteret Health Care is one of only 9 North Carolina hospitals recognized with five stars.
